The joys of Freej by Suzan Abrams

You wouldn't believe how close this feels to chic-lit. I first caught this superb 3D-animation telly series made up of 4 fictitious Dubai women netted together by all the clumsy insecurities that go with women friendships; on Etihad Airways last year and more recently on Emirates. The elderly ladies' classic quarrels, comprising possessions, men troubles and beauty envy coupled with endearing philosophical sacrements create for the perfect amusement - the sort one seeks with a book curled up in a divan with the exception that this 2 year old 15-minute shows from a 15-episode package is the Middle East's first animated series. Brilliantly created by Mohammed Saeed Harib, the comical true-to-life antics of Um Saeed, Um Saloom, Um Allawi and Um Khammas will hold you in stitches. Different body shapes, bossy mannerisms, entertaining sensibilities and eccentric personality attributes, all play a part in helping these women friends solve everyday problems with a fair bit of oomph in their gossipy neighbourhood. Their camaraderie is perhaps best matched over a regular cuppa where even the lack of a delicious coffee taste may be frowned upon. The perfect collector's item.
